Venous stasis ulcers develop when there is long term swelling and poor blood flow in the veins. The tissues of the leg start to breakdown; the ulcer forms.

Diagnosis

Physician's Examination infoA health care provider investigates the body of a patient for signs of disease. It uses transmission and reflection of ultrasound waves to visualise the veins of the leg from outside the body (with the help of gel which helps transmission of the sound waves).

Unna boots- a gauze dressing that is medicated. It is applied like a cast. It provides compression that helps improve blood flow and healing.

Good hygiene to help prevent infection
