One of the most common causes of vascular diseases is arteriosclerosis or atherosclerosis; also know by some as hardening of the arteries.

 

Arterio-sclerosis:

Thickening, weakening
and elasticity loss of the
walls of the arteries which
can be caused over time by
increased pressure.

Athero-sclerosis:

A specific type of
arteriosclerosis usually
caused by the development
of plaque or fatty deposits
which thicken the
artery lining.

When vital tissues/organs of the body do not receive adequate blood supply due to a blockage, the consequences could lead to a stroke, heart attack, loss of a limb or death.
